Suryasnata Basu
Suryasnata Basu (born 29th April 1991) is an Indian Singer-songwriter from Dhupguri, Jalpaiguri.
Life & Career
Suryasnata Basu is a UD Assistant under the Government of West Bengal, and a versatile poet, lyricist, and composer known for his thoughtful lyrics and evocative music. Born in Dhupguri, North Bengal, he completed his Higher Secondary education there before moving to Kolkata to pursue higher studies — a journey that shaped both his intellectual and artistic sensibilities. His creative world evolved through poetry and songwriting. His early poems were rooted in experimental Bengali literature, exploring themes of language, memory, and identity. Later, he began composing and writing songs that combined poetic lyricism with modern soundscapes.
He is the founder and creative lead of Doshomik Bangla Band, a Dhupguri-based Bengali rock-folk band that blends lyrical depth with contemporary musical expression. The band’s music resonates with urban emotion, social awareness, and a distinct poetic voice that reflects Suryasnata’s creative philosophy.
Notable Works and Collaborations
A defining moment in Suryasnata’s musical journey came when Rupankar Bagchi, one of Bengal’s most celebrated playback singers, lent his voice to Suryasnata’s composition “Nai Ba Holo.” The song stands out for its introspective lyrics and soulful melody — a true reflection of his nuanced artistry.
Another remarkable creation, “Shukno Sandhya Lufe Niye Gel Sekaler Notun Kobike,” further established his presence in Bengal’s contemporary music landscape. His songs often capture fleeting emotions — love, solitude, struggle, and hope — woven with profound simplicity.
Early & Personal Life
He was born in a low-middle class family. His father Nikhil Basu, a bengali writer from 60s & 70s is a retired high school teacher. Suryasnata's mother Smt. Anita Basu is a singer by profession in Assam. Growing up in Dhupguri, Suryasnata developed a keen interest in literature and music from an early age. Words and melodies came to him not just as expressions but as ways to understand life’s subtleties. After relocating to Kolkata, he immersed himself in the city’s vibrant cultural atmosphere. He trained in Western guitar under Sayan Banerjee, which refined his understanding of harmony, structure, and musical composition.
